Jenny Cheng - Borough Councillor for South Lake Ward WBC

Jenny Cheng was elected to represent Southlake in the 2018 local elections for Wokingham Borough Council. Currently Mayor of Woodley Town she is a hardworking woman who has been on the Town Council for 7 years and has helped many residents.

Jenny writes:  I lived in Woodley for 8 years and have lived in the area for 37 years so it’s a community that I know well. I’m retired and have three children and two young grand children.

My face may look familiar to many of you as I have served as Town Mayor for the last 2 years. I have hugely enjoyed meeting lots of residents, attending so many of Woodley’s community events and thanking all the hard working local volunteers.

I am passionate about improving our town and I’m delighted by the amazing plans to redevelop Bulmershe Leisure Centre and offer high quality facilities that local people deserve.  The investment in Woodford Park and its leisure centre are exciting too; there cannot be many towns that can boast 2 very popular leisure centres provided by Conservative-led councils that invest in what their community wants.

We are proud of our schools in South Lake and are building extra classrooms to expand Highwood Primary School so there will be more places available for local children at this good school. I have been a governor for Waingels College and the Bulmershe School.

I have been knocking on doors for the last 11 years listening to your views and I share the same concerns, especially about saving our bus services and protecting our green spaces from further development.  Both the Highwood and the South Lake are beautiful, natural environments that we should cherish to ensure that everybody can enjoy their tranquillity .

First elected to Woodley Town Council in 2007, I’m experienced in responding to the concerns of local people and I’ve served on the Leisure, Community and Plans Committees. Now I want to represent you on the Borough Council and work with Cllr Laura Blumenthal to ensure South Lake continues to be a great place to live, work and raise a family.
