Campaign to save the Henley Rd Bus Shelter

RESIDENTS of Caversham are being urged to sign a petition to stop the demolition of an ageing bus stop. The dark red bus stop opposite the Traveller’s Rest pub in Henley Road is under threat of being pulled down by Reading Borough Council, which says it is not suitable for use by the disabled and would cost too much to repair or replace.

Reading East Conservative Association is saddened to hear of the death of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher today. Elected Leader of the Conservative Party in 1975, she went on to win majorities in three successive General Elections in 1979, 1983 and 1987.

Conservatives spoke up for the 1,264 families on Reading’s Housing waiting list suffering from overcrowding at last Tuesday’s Council meeting. The so-called “Bedroom Tax” is designed to ensure that the social housing stock is best used to relieve over-crowding and free up larger Council houses for families who desperately need the accommodation.
