Letter from David Stevens, Chairman 2017

May I introduce myself as the new chairman of RECA. I was elected at the AGM on 11 March.
Many thanks to my predecessor Trevor Slack who nobly stepped into the breach last year.
I have been a member of the association since 1999. My first experience of political campaigning was during the 2001 General Election. I was elected as a Reading Borough councillor in 2004 and have served on the council since then. For the last 7 years I have chaired the council's Audit & Governance Committee.  I also served as the treasurer for RECA from 2013 to 2015.
I certainly plan to continue Trevor's informal monthly drinks aiming to hold the next session in mid April. Date and venue to follow. The new officer team also plan to hold a summer event and autumn dinner. Again, details to follow.
Once the new officer team have settled in we will resume campaigning activity. Fortunately 2017 is a 'fallow year' for both Reading and Wokingham Borough Councils but we do need to gear up for local elections in 2018. And whilst it appears likely that Mrs May will carry on until 2020, there is always the possibility of her calling a General Election at an earlier date.
I look forward to meeting you at one of the association's social events soon.
Kind regards
David Stevens
