Chairman's newsletter May 2017

Dear members and supporters

General Election Campaign

We are now about half way through the General Election campaign. To be precise there are 21 days to the General Election. There has been plenty of activity locally. Many thanks to all of you who have got involved with canvassing, leafleting or having a poster in your window or garden. If you have never been canvassing, do have at least one go with the campaign team. Any apprehensions you might have about knocking on a stranger's door and asking about their voting intentions are rapidly dismissed. You will be pleasantly surprised by how friendly most people are. The majority appreciate the fact that we made the effort to call on them.  Those who don't support us are invariably polite. What is most encouraging are the number of people who tell us that they previously supported other parties but that this time will vote Conservative.

Monthly drinks - RECA office

To support the campaign, on Wed 31 May we will hold the monthly drinks session in the office as part of a telephone canvassing session.  Please come along, have a go at telephone canvassing and join the team for a drink or two.

Summer Party on the Caversham Princess

Tickets are selling well for the Summer Party on Thursday 22 June.  On what will be a beautiful summer's evening - guaranteed - we will take a trip down the Thames aboard the Caversham Princess. A buffet supper will be served and afterwards we will listen to our guest speaker, Baroness Jane Scott.   Lady Scott lives in Wiltshire and splits her time between leading  Wiltshire County Council and sitting in the House of Lords . I think it will be extremely  interesting to hear how she thinks the Lords will operate after the General Election.  Don't miss the boat!

Lastly, back to the General Election.   June 8th will be a big day for us. There is much to do and if you can spend a couple of hours helping the campaign team, it would be much appreciated. Tasks include delivering early day reminders to vote,  telling at polling stations,  manning the office and inputting voting data and knocking up.  If you can do something,  please contact the campaign team at the office.

kind regards
